Tamil Movies Remade from Bollywood Movies – Part 1

1. Unnaipol Oruvan

Remake of A Wednesday was released in 2008. Tamil version was released in 2009 and directed by Chakri Toleti. Starring Kamal Hassan, Mohanlal, Lakshmi, Ganesh Vekatraman.

2. Bharathan

Starring Vijayakanth, Bhanupriya, Napoleon, this was a remake of Damini which was released in 1993. Bharathan movie was directed by Sabapathy Dekshinamurthy in 1992.

3. Thillu Mullu

K. Balachander is not a remake director, however he couldn’t resist himself from remaking Gol Maal was released in 1979. This comedy movie was released in 1981, starring Rajinikanth, Thengai Srinivasan, Madhavi, Sowkar Janaki.

4. Velaikaran

Another Rajinikanth’s movie that was remake from Hindi was Velaikaran, which is original movie of Namak Halaal by Amitabh Bachchan (1982) which was released in 1988. This movie directed by Rajinikanths favourite director S. P. Muthuraman.

5. Priyanka

With the cast of Prabhu, Nassar, Jayaram, Revathi, Priyanka (1994) was a remake of Damini which was released in 1993.

6. Mr. Bharath

Remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s blockbuster movie Trishul which was released in 1978. The tamil version was released in 1986, with the same combo of Rajinikanth & S. P. Muthuraman. Other cast was Ambika, Gaundamani, Raghuvaran.

7. Kanden Kadhalai

This was a remake of the Bollywood blockbuster Jab We Met which was released in 2007, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor. However, this was not a successful remake. Directed by R. Kannan, starring Bharath, Tamanna, Santhanam.

8. Oru Thayin Sabhatham

Remake of Gol Maal was released in 1979. The Tamil version was directed by T. Rajendar in 1987. He acted himself as the hero along with Srividya, S. S. Chandran. Simbhu played as child role in this movie.

9. Vairam

Not so famous remake of Victoria No. 203 (1972), Vairam was relased in 1974, directed by T. R. Ramanna and acted by Jaishankar, Jayalalitha, Thengai Srinivasan.

10. Settai

Another failure remake in this list was Settai which was a comedy riot of Delhi Belly was released in 2011. Directed by R. Kannan, and starring Arya, Anjali, Santhanam, Hansika Motwani, Premji Amaran. This was a major failure due to ‘not-so-funny’ comedies.
