Tamil Movie Remade From Malayalam – Part 1

Maara

Released in OTT, this movie was directed by Dhilip Kumar in 2021. This was a remake of Malayalam’s hit movie Charlie which was acted by Dulquer Salmaan and Parvathy. It was released in 2015. This tamil version was starring Madhavan, Shraddha Srinath, Sshivada, Abhirami and Alexander Babu.

Papanasam

One of the best performances by Kamal Hassan, this movie was released in 2015 with the direction of Jeethu Joseph. This was a remake of Drishyam which was released in 2013. Papanasam was starring Kamal Hassan, Gautami, Asha Sharath, Nivetha Thomas and more.

Chandramukhi

P. Vasu’s movie was a huge hit in 2005. This was a remake of Manichitrathazhu which was released in 1993. This tamil movie which was starring Rajinikanth, Nayanthara, Jyothika, Vadivelu, Prabhu, Malavika and more stars.

36 Vayathinile

Starring Jyothika as lead role, along with Rahman, Delhi Ganesh, Nassar, Abhirami and more. This movie is about a middle class woman who fights to follow her dreams. Directed by Rosshan Andrrews in 2015. Produced by actor Suriya. This was a remake of How Old Are You which was acted by Manju Warrier as the lead role.

Perazhagan

This hilarious movie was released in 2004, with the direction of Sasi Shanker. Starring Suriya, Jyothika, Vivek, Manobala, and more. This was a remake of hit Malayalam movie Kunjikoonan which was starring Dileep and Manya and was released in 2002.

Kireedam

Remake of Malayalam version of Kireedam, this movie was released in 2007. Story about Rajarajan, an honest police officer, wants to make his eldest son Sakthivel a policeman. However, he faces several obstacles on his way. Malayalam version released in1989.

Kadhalukku Mariyadhai

Vijay biggest box office hit in the 90’s was this movie. Directed by Fazil and music composed by Ilaiyaraaja in 1997. Typical love movie story, which is the love against the girl’s family. Starring Vijay, Shalini, Sivakumar, Thalaivasal Vijay and Saranya Mohan. Not many know that this movie was actually a remake of Aniyathipravu which was released in the same year.

Kasi

This was a remake of 1999’s Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njaanum. Brilliant performance by Vikram, as a blind person. This movie was released in 2001. Directed by Vinayan, this movie is about a blind man struggles to get back his vision along the way, his girlfriend and sister were cheated by the village head. Starring Vikram, Kaveri, Kavya Madhavan, Manivannan.

Bangalore Naatkal

Directed by Bhaskar, this movie was a direct remake of Bangalore Days which starred Dulquer Salmaan, Nazriya Nazim, Nivin Pauly and Parvathy. Story about Three cousins, relocate to Bangalore for various reasons. However, they face many challenges which change their lives forever. The Tamil version was acted by Arya, Rana Daggubati, Sri Divya and Parvathy who played roles in the Malayalam version in Tamil as well.

Bhaskar Oru Rascal

Bhaskar, a single parent, is labelled rascal because of his impolite behaviour. His son, Akash, decides to set him up with Anu, whose daughter is Akash’s classmate. This was a direct remake of Malayalam movie Bhaskar The Rascal. However it was a huge flop in Tamil for miscasting and poor making. Nayanthara acted in Malayalam version and Amala Paul acted in the Tamil version. Aravind Swamy to replace Mamooty’s role
