These are the best and hits of Kamal Hassan movies that were released from 1980-1989. This list is in no particular order. 

Nayakan

Mani Ratnam’s biggest success in his career. Released in 1987, Kamal Hassan played as Velu Nayakan and music composed by Ilayaraja with some great songs. 

Vazhvey Maayam

Released in 1982, this movie was directed by R. Krishnamurthy and music composed by Gangai Amaran. Starring Kamal Hassan, Sridevi, Sripriya and Jaishankar. This love story is about a person who is suffering from cancer. 

Varumayin Niram Sivappu

Story about an unemployed man who is strictly against corruption, struggles to get a job and lives in poverty. Starring Kamal Hassan, Sridevi, Pratap Pothen, S. V. Shekar and more. Movie directed and screenplay by K. Balachander in 1980.

Kaakki Sattai

Typical Tamil police movie, released in 1985. Starring Kamal Hassan, Sathyaraj, Ambika and Madhavi. 

Moondram Pirai

One of the most celebrated movies in Kamal Hassan’s career is Moondram Pirai. Directed by Batu Mahendra, and acted by Kamal Hassan, Sridevi, Silk Smitha and more. 

Vikram

Another police movie from Kamal Hassan during the 80’s, which was a huge box office back then. This movie was praised by many for the making, which was compared with Hollywood movie making style. Starring Kamal Hassan, Dimple Kapadia, Sathyaraj, Ambika and more. Movie was directed by Rajashekar in 1986.

Punnagai Mannan

Dual role by Kamal Hassan, this movie was directed by K. Balachander in 1986. Starring Kamal Hassan, Rekha, Revathi, Delhi Ganesh and Srividya. Famous for its song Enna Saththam Indha Neram sang by Legendary S. P. Balasubrahmanyam. 

Sathya

Another brilliant performance by Kamal Hassan in this movie which was released in 1988. Directed by Suresh Krissna and starring Kamal Hassan, Amala, Rajesh, Nassar, and Vadivukarasi. Movie about a jobless youngster who protests against injustice. 

Unnal Mudiyum Thambi

Another combo of K. Balanchader and Kamal Hassan released in the 80’s. Story about a social activist who is the son of a proud Carnatic musician who wanted his song to be like him. The clash between the father and son is portrayed brilliantly in this movie. Starring Kamal Hassan, Gemini Genesan, Seetha, Manorama and more.  

Vetri Vizha

Starring Kamal Hassan, Prabhu, Amala, and Salim Ghouse, this movie is about the lead role who suffers from amnesia who later will find out he was well trained in combat. This movie was directed by Pratap Pothen in 1989.
