This inspiring movie is about a village girl going into the Women Cricket World Cup. Amazing performance by Aishwarya Rajesh, Sathyaraj, and Darshan, with Sivakarthikeyan in a supporting role. This movie is written and directed by Arunraja Kamaraj. Movie was a huge hit in 2018.

Jeeva

One of our favourite sports movies in Tamil cinema. Simply because of the storyline and screenplay with brilliant performance by Vishnu Vishal. Written and directed by Suseenthiran in 2014. Story about the lead role, who has a natural talent in cricket, dreams of playing for the Indian cricket team. However, his love life and politics in the sports governing body become obstacles to his ambition.

Chennai 600028 – Part 2

After a huge success of the first part – the team decided to make the second of this movie, yet they won many hearts. Raghu and his teammates participate in a cricket match against a local team. However, the rivalry between the two groups causes a series of unfortunate events in their personal lives. Again directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced by SPB Charan. Starring the same boys gang – Shiva, Jai , Premji, Aravind Akash, Nithin Sathya, Vijay Vasanth, Ajay Raj, Prassanna Shanmugham, Ranjith, Arun along with Ilavarasu.

Ethir neechal 

Starring Sivakarthikeyan, Priya Anand and Nandita Swetha, this movie was produced by Dhanush under his studio Wunderbar Films. This was a breakthrough movie for Sivakarthikeyan in his career. Movie was released in 2013 directed by R. S. Durai Senthilkumar, about marathon runners. 

Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu

Having never won a tournament, a team of kabaddi players are ridiculed by their villagers. Their redemption finally arrives while playing in Madurai, for which they pay a heavy price. Movie was released in 2009 directed by Suseenthiran.

Bigil

Released in 2019, this was not a proper sports movie, however it features football throughout the movie, hence it is in this list. Starring Vijay, Nayanthara, Varsha Bollamma, Amritha Aiyer. Directed by Atlee and music composed by AR Rahman.

Badri 

Another Vijay’s movie in this category. Story goes when a kickboxer gets attacked by his enemies and ends up bedridden, his brother sets out to fulfil his dream of winning the kickboxing championship. Starring Vijay, Bhumika Chawla, Monal, Riyaz Khan and Vivek. Movie released in 2001.

M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story

This was a dubbed movie from Hindi. However this is about our favourite legendary M S Dhoni, hence it is a must to include in this list. Directed by Neeraj Pandey and acted by late Sushant Singh and Kiara Advani.

Bhooloham 

Another boxing movie in this list. Deepak decides to use the rivalry between the families of Boologam and Arumugam, two boxers, for his personal gain. Starring Jayam Ravi, Prakash Raj and Trisha. Movie was directed by N. Kalyanakrishnan and released in 2015.

Vallinam 

Starring Nakkhul and Mrudhula Bhaskar, directed by Arivazhagan Venkatachalam. The story goes due to a fatal accident, Krishna, a basketball player moves to a new college. There he locks horns with a Vamsi, a cricket maniac, who does not let other sports gain importance.
